A massage may be something you chose for a rainy day, or to destress after a long month of work. Though not many realise how medically beneficial massage can be. Further, it's increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations. We all know the benefits of massage demonstrate that it can be an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension.
While more research is needed to confirm the benefits of massage, some studies have found massage may also be helpful for several medical conditions.
According to MAYOclinic, here are a few:
Anxiety
Digestive disorders
Fibromyalgia
Headaches
Insomnia related to stress
Myofascial pain syndrome
Paresthesias and nerve pain
Soft tissue strains or injuries
Sports injuries
Beyond the benefits for specific conditions or diseases, some people enjoy massage because it often involves caring, comfort, and general relaxation. More than what your average cup of tea can do.
Despite its benefits, massage isn't meant as a replacement for regular medical care although it can greatly assist in your progress. Ask your doctor about massage next time you're in.....then book an appointment with us!
